Nia Clements '18, delivered a talk at Trinity University's TEDx symposium on her efforts to fight cancer, and how her cat began the process of inspiring her to focus her work.

And she also was one of the main subjects of a story on Trinity's website about Entrepreneurship Hall, or E-Hall, as it's known on campus. It's a space where aspiring entrepreneurs live and work with each other, and where business ideas can hatch at any time. Here's the story about E-Hall.

Ian Thompson '98 honored among 40 Under 40

Congratulations to Dr. Ian Thompson '98, for his award as a member of this year's class of 40 Under 40.

He's Chief Medical Officer at Christus San Rosa Medical Center Hospital, and is the founder of Texas Urology Group, where he practices general urology and urologic oncology. He currently works for MagForce USA running a phase 1 trial studying a therapy for prostate cancer.

The award is an annual feature from the San Antonio Business Journal to recognize outstanding young professionals.

Christopher Zhu '16 studies, leads workshop in Japan

Christopher Zhu '16 utilized two months of his summer in Japan to experience international healthcare.

He spent the first part of his summer rotating through the clinical laboratory and emergency medicine departments at Juntendo University in Tokyo, presenting patients, case studies, and participating in mock-ups alongside Japanese medical students. In the following month, he led an innovation workshop sponsored by the University of Tokyo in the southern prefecture of Miyazaki focused on the reversal of its rural depopulation crisis. He remains very excited about attending the UT Health San Antonio School of Medicine in late summer 2019!

Alicia (Dennis) Ortega '03 succeeds at Sundance

The writing career of Alicia (Dennis) Ortega is progressing impressively.

In May, she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Louisiana State University, where her novel The Ghost You Deserve won the Robert Penn Warren Award for best MFA thesis in prose.

Her feature Righteous Acts was selected for both the Sundance Screenwriters Intensive in Los Angeles and the Sundance Screenwriters Lab in Utah, where she attended workshops and mentor meetings with established filmmakers. She's currently the Lynn Auerbach Screenwriting fellow and a finalist for the SFFILM Westridge Grant.

In addition, she writes essays, short stories (including publications in The Arkansas International and Aquifer from The Florida Review), and screenplays.

After stints in San Francisco, New York, Baton Rouge, and Dallas, she recently moved back to San Antonio with her husband, Anthony, and cat, Magic Johnson. Her story, Only Tourists Remember the Alamo, is online in Aquifer.

After Keystone, she went to Stanford, where she studied English and Human Biology.

Evan Meade '18 arrives with fanfare at UT-Dallas

Evan Meade '18 is already making news at the University of Texas at Dallas.

He's one of 16 students in the Eugene McDermott Scholars Program, a highly competitive honor at the school. McDermott Scholars receive full tuition and fees, stipends for books, monthly stipends, funds for study abroad and several other benefits.

Here's a story from the univerity's news service about his incoming class.

The year's entering cohort, the program’s 18th class, includes seven students from Texas, and the nine from eight other states, including California and New York.

Evan is majoring in physics with a concentration in quantum information science.
